Congratulations if you owned and © Gundongan for his part in the last gameweek. I saw a fair few play their triple captain chip with quite a bit of success on him, even if he did it all in one game I’m sure you won’t mind one bit if you got the points.
This last gameweek seemed to drag on forever, especially for us Sterling owners and © hopefuls. We saw a number of late injuries and benchings too meaning a number of people’s double gameweek assets turned into SGW assets which of course is the nature of the game/gamble.
Whilst we await the fixture news for 26 to 29 there is of course GW25 to consider, a mini double for those with Leeds and Southampton assets. However, elsewhere too there are a number of good open fixtures to consider.
TLDR
My © will be Bamford
Vice – Salah
Bamford – TSB ~ 56% – SOU/Wol
So maligned in recent years for being too wasteful to be a PL striker, Bamford has spent this season leading the Leeds line with 12 goals in the 24 rounds so far.
Now with a double against Wolves / Southampton, there will be ample opportunity to add to that tally. With Leeds goals coming from across the squad there is also a favourable chance for the odd assist too.
With a heavy ownership to likely follow suit, this is a bit of a shield pick as he is likely to be the most popular captain. From the horse’s mouth, Bamford will be ©-ing Bamford and so will I.
Bruno – TSB ~ 60% – New
Newcastle looked pretty defeated again at Chelsea and that was pretty evident before they had kicked a ball in the tunnel. With another impressive showing in Europe and Pogba still injured this will be another good opportunity for Bruno to extend his advantage at the top of the midfield points scorers.
Manchester United should have enough in the tank on Sunday to attack this game and the mood around the camp seems to be good. Always difficult to captain a SGW player when there are doubles around but this could be a safe choice for what is evidently one of the most consistent performers this year.
Salah – TSB ~ 43% – EVE
Retaining the title may be a stretch too far this year, however, Liverpool’s star man remains as potent in attack as ever. A fixture against the locals is always a big one and a good win in Europe was just what the Doctor ordered for the team.
With Everton, they just seemed to have lost their rhythm and this game probably comes at the wrong point in the season for them. This by no means should be one-way traffic, but I’m not expecting a free-scoring classic either. Scrappy but with Mo the likely game-winner. If you are really keen on a SGW captain and don’t own or fancy Bruno then this is my next best bet.
Ings – TSB ~ 14 % – CHE / LEE
With his first goal since a return from injury 6/7 fixtures ago, Ings now has a double in front of him. Chelsea have been a stronger side defensively but will be tested by Southampton and Leeds can be a bit of a coin flip to predict defensively from my point of view as I never know what to expect from them as an armchair fan.
With just 8 goals to his name so far, his owners will be hoping he can reach double fixtures here. This is a good alternative to Bamford if you own Ings, want to captain a double gameweek asset and don’t want to go with the masses.
