Firstly, my apologies for the lack of content from me for a while. The gap between the games, coupled with other personal factors, simply meant I couldn’t get it down. Anyway, now with that out of the way, onwards we go. As usual, we start with a look back over the last review before we move on to the next picks
Previous Review Results
Adam Webster
This one started so well. Firstly he didn’t get injured so there’s that. A goal in the first game after my last review came out showed promise. Sadly it’s been all downhill since. He missed the following game and despite playing all of the following four matches there have been no clean sheets and no attacking returns. Oh, what could have been?
Paul Pogba
I appear to have simply moved the curse to midfielders. Pogba played 45 minutes of Gameweek 19 only to pick up another injury that he still hasn’t returned from.
Neal Maupay
I expected better here. No goals, two assists and two yellow cards is a scant return for a striker with favourable stats and fixtures. All in all a bad set of picks last time out.
So time to look at who did well:
The Good
Trent Alexander-Arnold
The Liverpool man finally came good on early-season optimism. A 24 pointer in Gameweek 19 was a shocker with a goal, three assists and a clean sheet in that one. But beyond that, two assists and five clean sheets have seen the Liverpool man establish himself as the pick of the defenders.
Ayoze Perez
An early-season bandwagon finally coming good. Three goals and three assists have gone some way to helping Leicester regain some form and momentum following tough times against Manchester City and Liverpool.
Sergio Aguero
I mean we already knew he was good, but the Argentine wizard re-announced himself in this period with seven goals and an assist in what essentially amounts to four games given he missed one completely and played a combined 36 minutes across two others. When Aguero is on form there’s no one who can touch him.
The Bad
Christian Kabasele
There hasn’t been an exceptionally bad defender but Kabasele is one who stood out Following an 11 point haul against Manchester United, it went downhill for the Belgian. A clean sheet against Aston Villa was bookended by a blank against Sheffield United and then a red card and a -1 against Wolves. In his absence, Watford registered back to back clean sheets. Will the late capitulation to Aston Villa afford him a route back in?
Mason Mount
A promising start to the season has quickly petered out for the Chelsea man, who still has 15% ownership. Mount has just a solitary assist and has only completed 0 minutes twice.
Jamie Vardy
How the mighty have fallen. Once the king of FPL the Leicester man has registered just one assist and has missed two and a half games due to injury and babies. Can he remind us what he is about before the exodus goes monster?
Ones to Watch
Hopefully, this lot is better than the last:
Enda Stevens (SHU) – Price £5.1m, Ownership 2.4%
Sheffield United have shown themselves to be a solid defence and Stevens has flown under the radar. Just one goal and two assists have him behind team-mate George Baldock, but the stats are superior. His 27 chances created puts him fifth overall for defenders and his 39 Penalty Area Touches put him sixth. He could be one to watch with a run that reads (cpl, BOU bri, NOR), though his blank in Gameweek 28 should be noted.
John Fleck (SHU) – Price £5.0m, Ownership 5.6%
Sticking with Sheffield United and those fixtures, John Fleck offers a cheap route into the attacking potential. Fleck is the Blades joint top scorer and boats impressive stats having created three big chances in his last four, which is impressive when you consider that three of those were against Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
Chris Wood (BUR) – Price £6.2m, Ownership, 1.5%
The big New Zealander seems to fly under the radar every season and yet he has now hit ten league goals for the third season running and with Ashley Barnes out, he could well be on penalties. The fixtures are mixed (ARS, sot, BOU, new, TOT, mci) but Wood has high goal involvement, so if Burnley do score there’s a good chance it will be him. He’s lost amongst a sea of options, but if it’s a differential you seek, Wood could be the man.
